Couture repeats his claim that Lesnar will return soon

By Steve Cofield for sports.yahoo.com

The biggest mystery in MMA just got more interesting with Randy Couture reiterating that Brock Lesnar's recovery is way ahead of what Dana White has been suggesting. Couture first told HDNet's Inside MMA and repeated the conversation again to Cagewriter that he spoke with Lesnar, who already said he was training.

"He was very upbeat and very positive," said Couture. "[He] said that he was training again. He wasn't cleared yet to get on the mat but that he was back on the mat and that he felt way better and that he'd be back in the spring."

BROCK LESNAR IN KO SHOCK

By Kevin Francis for Daily Star newspaper

BROCK Lesnar may need career-threatening surgery after pulling out of his last two fights.

The world heavyweight champion is suffering from diverticulitis – an intestinal disorder.

Lesnar pulled out of the defence of his title against Shane Carwin with glandular fever in October and then withdrew from the re-scheduled bout last week.

In between, he underwent surgery after doctors said he had been suffering with the illness for at least a year.

One of the problems was that his immune system had been overloaded dealing with it and that’s why he went down with glandular fever.

Man-mountain Lesnar, 32, is hoping to return this summer if he responds to treatment.

But there are fears that he will have surgery to remove parts of his intestines, raising serious doubts over his future.

UFC president Dana White has been silent on the Lesnar situation – a direct result of a plea from the fighter to respect his privacy.

White explained: “The most important thing is that Brock gets better. I like him and he’s a great guy. Of course I want to see him fight again. But, compared to this guy getting better and having a great quality of life, I couldn’t care less about his career.

“But, if he does come back, imagine how f*****g good this guy will be!

“Doctors say he has only been at 50 per cent strength for over a year with this thing.

“When you bear that in mind and look what he’s done – well, imagine what he is capable of at 100 per cent!” Lesnar has lost just one of his four UFC fights – his debut bout in the organisation against Frank Mir in February 2008.

Randy Couture lost his heavyweight title to Lesnar in November 2008.

Couture now trains with Lesnar and said: “I spoke with Brock last week and I don’t think his career is over.

“They have the issues he’s been having under control and he’s back training.

“I think he will be back in the Octagon this spring and ready to fight again.”
