Brock Lesnar could be returning to a cage near you, sooner rather than later.

The former UFC heavyweight champion announced on a video that he's healthy and ready to fight again following a second lengthy bout with diverticulitis.

"I'm Brock Lesnar and I'm back," said the 34-year-old MMA superstar in the video promoting one of his sponsors, right after he fires a machine gun in the wilderness.

Lesnar, who hasn't fought since losing his belt to current champ Cain Velasquez in October 2010, has had surgery and said he feels "like a new man." He hopes to be back in the Octagon "sooner than later."

One of the most marketable stars in the UFC, Lesnar (5-2) could end up being featured in the upcoming December show at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto. Most major UFC events between now and then have their main events booked, but UFC 140 on Dec. 10 is still without a headlining bout.

MMABay.co.uk reported this week that former Strikeforce heavyweight champion Alistair Overeem, who was recently released by Zuffa, the parent organization of Strikeforce and the UFC, was close to signing a contract with the UFC to fight Lesnar at the December show at the Air Canada Centre.

Asked when MMA fans will see the heavyweight contender in the octagon again, the former champ replied "sooner than later."

White predicts New Year's Day return for Brock Lesnar

UFC president Dana White has given an update on Brock Lesnar's potential return, revealing the former heavyweight champion is being lined up for the UFC's annual New Year's Day card.

"Brock's gonna get back in the gym in September," the UFC president told MMA Weekly. "Start training again, because he hasn't done anything since his surgery, training wise. Brock will probably be back the first of the year."
