Bad News for all Brock Lesnar fans!
Brock Lesnar withdrawn from UFC 131!!! The main event on UFC 131 will now be Junior dos Santos vs. Shane Carwin.

Brock Lesnar is once again suffering from diverticulitis, and as a result, has withdrawn from his UFC 131 fight against Junior dos Santos on June 11.

Lesnar made the announcement on a UFC conference call on Thursday.

"I dodged a bullet about two years ago with diverticulitis, at that time not knowing what the problem was," Lesnar said. "Diverticulitis is an illness that never goes away. It's something that I've dealt with since my first occurrence and have been battling with it. It's just something that's in your colon for the rest of your life, and I've been able to maintain it to the point that it's tolerable. I was able to go through two training camps -- Shane Carwin and Cain Velasquez -- and made it through those camps without having a bout or any symptoms."

Lesnar said that he had been dealing with symptoms for "about three months" and that he immediately went on a series of antibiotic treatments to fight the infection. He said he currently feels pain in his abdomen region and feels worn out to the point where it's hard to train.

After the antibiotic treatment didn't work, Lesnar traveled to the Mayo Clinic on Wednesday to consult with doctors on what he should do next. That's when he decided to pull out of the fight.

"I'm not like a lot of people. I consider myself a top notch elite athlete that has to push his body to other limits and because of the stress that I've put on my body in the training camp it causes this thing to become active again and not agree with what I'm doing," Lesnar said.

"It didn't allow me to train to my full capabilities. I was forced to make a decision to go back down to the doctor this week to figure out how far this thing is along. What it does is it drains my entire body down. Basically, you've got an infection in your stomach and all my resources went to fight this problem instead of rebuilding what I tore down in the gym."

According to MayoClinic.com, diverticulitis "occurs when one or more diverticula in your digestive tract become inflamed or infected. Diverticula are small, bulging pouches that can form anywhere in your digestive system, including your esophagus, stomach and small intestine. However, they're most commonly found in the large intestine."

Thankfully for Lesnar, he doesn't feel as much pain as he did when he was first diagnosed with the disease two years ago.

"It's not as serious as last time. It just didn't allow me to train the way I needed to train for a No. 1 contender's bout. I am forced with the decision to either have surgery or to deal with this for the rest of my life, so obviously, I am fighting a different fight than having to give up the fight on June 11," Lesnar said.

"I will tell you one thing, I'm not retiring. This isn't the end of my fight career. This is something that I believe, and I have strong faith, that there's a solution to every problem. I just have to find a solution to fix this problem. I love this sport and I love what I do. This isn't the end of Brock Lesnar. This is a speed bump in the road."

The 33-year-old Lesnar took a year off between July 2009 and July 2010 to fight the disease. He elected to not have surgery back then and is still unclear whether he will have surgery this time around. He said he has no timetable in mind as to when he will be able to fight again.

"A lot of things go through your mind as an athlete, especially myself, this is something that has been wearing on me for about a month now and different thoughts come to your mind, but it wouldn't be fair to myself or my family or to the people that I have to get in the Octagon to perform in front of because I wouldn't have been 100 percent on June 11 because I'm not there now," Lesnar said.

"My health is No. 1, family is No. 1 and it was a hard decision. I'm choked up about and there's nothing I can do."

As for dos Santos, his new opponent will now be Shane Carwin. Carwin, whose last fight was a loss to Lesnar at UFC 116, was scheduled to fight Jon Olav Einemo on the undercard of UFC 131. According to UFC president Dana White, Einemo does not have a new opponent lined up yet.

"Junior is a serious fight and not the type of fight that you would normally take on a 30 day notice but I have a dream to chase and I do not have a lot of time to chase it," Carwin wrote on his blog. "This is an opportunity to put myself in contention for the title."
